What is Cross-docking?

Short definition
Cross-docking is moving inbound goods straight from a receiving dock to an outbound shipment with little or no storage in between.
DefinedTermCanonical definition · EasyBay glossary

In cross-docking, freight is unloaded from an inbound truck, sorted, and reloaded onto outbound vehicles within hours rather than being put away into storage. It cuts holding costs and speeds delivery for high-velocity or pre-allocated inventory.

Most small product brands don't run true cross-docking, but a co-warehouse's shared docks make light cross-dock workflows possible — for example, receiving a pallet and breaking it into outbound parcels the same day.

EasyBay rents flexible co-warehousing suites by the month — see sizes & pricing or book a tour.
